Local officials and Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA) staff met last week to discuss the need for a new doctor to practise in Elie.
Dr. Jennifer Malmstrom, who has worked part-time in Elie for the past 11 years, recently announced her intention to leave in a public letter posted on the RM of Cartier’s website. Her final day will be Sept. 19.
Her patients are asked to contact her if they wish to have their records transferred to another doctor.
Dr. Hossam Girgis also practises part-time at the Elie Medical Clinic.
Cartier reeve Roland Rasmussen confirmed that he’s one of the local officials working on finding a new doctor for the community.
SRHA vice-president of medical services Dr. Denis Fortier is hopeful that another doctor will take over Malmstrom’s practice.
"We are having discussions with a group of physicians," he said.
