Selling off 30 years of drama

Looking for a Halloween costume?

Think about stopping by the Headingley United Church Dinner Theatre’s liquidation sale and picking up a dress, suit, hat, wig, shawl or one of the many other clothing items on offer.

Costume mistress Margaret Mills is organizing the sale items, which include costumes and props collected from productions staged over the past 30 years. The United Church Players performed their final show earlier in the year.

Mills also has a wide variety of accessories that can be teamed with the full-length dresses available. And if you don’t find a ready-made dress to suit you, you can buy some fabric also being offered for sale.

"We’re hoping to make some money for the church," she said.

Mills said, in addition to using the costumes in the troupe’s annual dinner theatre productions, she rented them out to local schools and churches, and will hold onto some costumes so she can continue providing rentals.

"I keep quite a few things for these groups," she said.

The sale will take place at the Headingley United Church at 110 Bridge Rd. on Oct. 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mills said the costume sale’s hours coincide with the hours for the annual Headingley Christmas Craft Sale being held in the Headingley Community Centre at 5353 Portage Ave. She’s hoping that people will attend both.
