It's not too late to get your go-kart team together and raise money for a worthy cause at Thunder Rapids in Headingley on Sept. 8.
The Huntington Society of Canada's Manitoba chapter is holding its 18th annual Indy Go-Kart Challenge to help fund its resource centre in Winnipeg and support groups.
Organizer Vern Barrett said teams of up to six people can register for $360 per team, and a tax receipt will be issued for a portion of that fee. Each team is guaranteed to get up to two hours of track time, with drivers changing every 20 minutes.
Children must be age 10 and over and taller than 52 inches to drive a go-kart at Thunder Rapids, but there are a few karts that can carry an adult and younger child.
"Basically it's a family event," said Barrett, adding that prizes are awarded.
Last year 35 teams participated, raising about $30,000, and he hopes to match that again.
Race times are from 9 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
