Up to 200 Grade 5 to 8 students will blend their voices in song in St. Eustache on Oct. 21.
This is the first time that the Central Manitoba Choral Association’s student workshops are being held in the community, but association member and St. François Xavier resident Crystal Jochum said students from as far away as Plum Coulee and Carman will be rising early to drive to St. Eustache for the 9 a.m. start.
"It’s very exciting for us to be hosting this event," she added.
The workshops will be led by choral directors from Winnipeg. Students will be divided into groups located within École St. Eustache, the community hall and Roman Catholic Church.
Jochum said, for many of the students this will be the first time they’ve sung in a choir.
"Some of the small schools don’t have any choral instruction."
The day will end with a public performance by the students at 4 p.m. in the church. The cost is $5 for adults and the Central Manitoba Youth Choir, with Grade 10 to 12 students, will also perform.
Jochum said she’s still accepting registrations for the workshops and can be reached at 204-864-2834 or 204-799-8463.
