You can get your blood flowing despite the cold by joining in a game of broomball, skating around the rink, carrying your sled up a toboggan hill or just enjoying a cup of hot chocolate next to a bonfire during St. Francois Xavier’s Winter Fun Day on Sun., Feb. 16.

Most activities will be held at the SFX Community Cub at 983 Highway 26 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Organizer Dwayne Clark is hoping this year’s event builds on the success of last year’s Fun Day.

Clark is taking registration for a broomball tournament to be held on the club’s new outdoor rink. He said there were four teams of five or six people participating in 2013, and would like to see more join in. Individuals can also register and be placed on teams.

Clark can be reached at pjclark@mymts.net

Amateur chefs can warm up their crock pots and sign up for the first chili cook-off. Anyone interested should contact Amber Gallant at 204-864-2317 or SFXCClub@gmail.com

Gallant is also taking registration for a snowmobile poker derby that begins at the community club at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. A dinner will follow, with a percentage of the total entry fees given out as prizes.

Clark said horse-drawn sleigh rides were a highlight of last year’s event and will be available again.

Kids of all ages can get some outdoor exercise on the toboggan run located behind the community club.

Indoor activities, including carpet bowling, will be offered, along with hot food items.
