All aboard for a relaxing post-brunch hayride in the countryside!
The Gates restaurant in Headingley has teamed up with Aspire Photography & Carriage Services to offer their Sunday brunch guests a complimentary hayride.
Aspire Photography co-owner Lana Young met Ray Louie, operating partner of The Gates, at The Wedding Show. In an example of business networking at its best, these two have teamed up to offer yet another enjoyable treat for young and old. Lana and Mike Young own Aspire Photography, which focuses on weddings and commercial photo shoots.
"I grew up with horses and was looking to add another dimension to our photo business. We didn’t go looking for a specific breed of horse. It was important to get horses with the right mindset for the task," Lana said.
Two percherons were perfect for the task: Nine-year-old Ace, who stands 18 hands high and weighs in at 2,300 pounds, and 11-year-old Gunner, 19 hands high and 2,500 pounds. When you consider that competition draft horses can pull six times their weight, Ace and Gunner have a pretty easy job pulling a wagon full of happy, relaxed guests.
"Whether it’s an anniversary, wedding brunch, or birthday, we continually try to add more to our guests’ experiences to create lasting memories around their special time that they shared with us," Louie said.
Feedback about the hayrides has been extremely positive. The rides will likely be offered until mid-September, depending on the weather.
Hayrides are new for some of the guests. Some of the older riders find themselves reminiscing about their past experiences, when they lived out in the country. For some of the children, the fun begins with having to climb up on a bale of hay to be able to get into the wagon. Most guests on the hayride agree that it’s a wonderful addition to the dining experience at The Gates.
The picturesque restaurant, which is buffered from Roblin Boulevard by a charming horse enclosure that always houses a couple of horses, sets the perfect stage for the hayrides.
What can be better than enjoying a mouth-watering Sunday brunch that leaves you savouring the moment and maybe wanting to stay and enjoy a slower pace just a bit longer?
