Students and staff from La Salle School will be staging a production of the musical Annie later this month.

Annie is the story of a young orphan who is chosen to stay at a billionaire’s house, but has to deal with plenty of competition and struggle as a result.

The musical will be offered on Mon., May 16 and Tues., May 17 beginning at 7 p.m. each night. A matinee performance is scheduled for May 17 at 1 p.m. Admission will be $8 per person while student admission will be $5. Children under the age of five will be admitted free. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets should contact the school at 736-4266.

As in past years, the musical will be performed in the La Salle School gymnasium.

Teachers Debbie Howard, Nancy Kruger and Crystal Machowski are helping organize the production.

Students in grades 6 to 8 will be taking lead roles in the musical. Grade 5 students will be featured in supporting roles. Drew Gerbrandt has been cast in the lead role of Annie.

The inaugural Meridian Youth Rally, which I wrote about in April enjoyed a great turn out.
More than 100 youth attended the event. It was open to all youth from the RM of Macdonald, and was arranged by representatives from area churches.

Participants were charged a registration fee of $10, and were treated to a pizza party, games, treat bag, custom made Meridian Youth Rally T-shirt, a worship band and entertainment from the band Reinstate.

The theme of the event was Grammy Night. When kids arrived they walked the red carpet which had been called the "walk of faith." Questions were posted on a wall that participants had to answer once they finished the walk.

Some eye-opening movies were shown about the effects of kindness and being yourself during the film festival portion of the rally. The worship was organized by Oak Bluff Church. Justin Willems spoke to the kids about the importance of faith.

While this year’s rally was the first, organizers say it likely won’t be the last.
