Winnipeg police say an attempted abduction in Elmwood turned out to have never happened.
On Aug. 26, the Winnipeg Police Service sent out a release advising that the previous day around 5 p.m., a 12-year-old girl reported an attempted abduction on the 500 block of Washington Avenue. However, after an investigation by the Child Abuse Unit, officers "determined that the events surrounding the incident were not as initially reported and that the attempt abduction incident is unfounded", according to an Aug. 28 release.
The girl had reported than an unknown male was following her around 4:20 p.m. on Aug. 25, but she continued eastbound when he grabbed her from behind. She had said she was able to break free after kicking out at the man before running home and notifying her parents.
