Care homes announced, but few specs available
Few details are available regarding new personal care homes announced by the province on July 3.
On that date, the province expressed interest in constructing two new personal care homes in the city, including one in northeast Winnipeg.
Spokeswoman Julie DeVoin said in an email the province plans to construct a new 100-bed facility in the quadrant, and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is looking for companies interested in putting the projects together.
"The call for proposals currently underway is asking for groups interested in developing the new personal care home and looking for locations," noted DeVoin. "It will be a modern facility providing a home-like environment with the care and supports needed by older Manitobans who can no longer live at home. Both new personal care homes will have specific requirements for all health facilities related to common areas, kitchens, and ventilation systems to ensure infection prevention and control."
The province also called for another facility in south Winnipeg, also expected to house approximately 100 beds. It will support the projects through the new Manitoba Building and Renewal Plan.
