An Elmwood Olympian will be making a triumphant return in June.

Six-time medallist Clara Hughes will make a stop in Winnipeg as part of Clara’s Big Ride on June 14. The campaign will include a family-friendly carnival at Clara Hughes Recreation Park during the day and Manitoba’s Big Social for Clara’s Big Ride at night.

The social will run from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Manitoba Museum (190 Rupert Ave.) and will include a cabaret of local musical acts hosted by comedian Big Daddy Tazz. Hughes will greet the crowd at 8 p.m. Presale tickets are on sale at a rate of two for $20 at Moksha Yoga Kildonan (440-1650 Regent Ave. W.) and Medicine Shoppe Concordia (115-1100 Concordia Ave.). After April 10, tickets will also be on sale at the Canadian Mental Health Association offices (930 Portage Ave.), Artbeat Studio (4-62 Albert St.), the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba (100-4 Fort St.), and online at www.cmhawpg.mb.ca for $15 each.

Clara’s Big Ride is a 12,000-kilometre, 100-day bike ride Hughes is completing to reduce stigma around mental illness and raise awareness for mental health as part of the Bell Let’s Talk campaign. She kicked off her ride in Toronto on March 14.
