Community Places funding to benefit many
Finally, the holiday season is upon us. Traditions are beginning to show their colours, carols are playing, and the familiar sound of the Salvation Army kettle campaign is ringing throughout the city.
Since it is the season for giving and caring for each other, I would like to share some of the local organizations our government is proud to support, who dedicate their time and effort towards improving our community.
Churches are increasingly reaching out, building new partnerships and re-establishing their role as community hubs. Last October, I attended the official opening ceremony for the St. Bartholomew Anglican Church. This was a special event for Radisson because it celebrated the refurbishing of a sacred place of worship.
With more than $24,000 in funding from the Manitoba Community Places Program, the church has become more accessible for everyone with new accessible elevators and washrooms, and they also replaced the floors. Our government recognizes that all facilities should adapt to fulfil the needs of all people equally. Thank you to Dr. June James and the St. Bartholomew Anglican Church for inviting me to this event. It was good to see that the opening was well attended.
We were also pleased to help the Gateway Christian Community upgrade its soccer field and other facilities through the Community Places Program. Over $12,000 in upgrades will provide lasting benefits for our whole community.
In November, there were many remembrance ceremonies to honour Manitoban men and women of all walks of life who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our rights and freedoms.
We recognize the extraordinary challenges and hardships they faced on our behalf. On Nov. 11 I attended the Norwood St. Boniface Legion Branch Remembrance Day Service Parade. The parade began its procession at St. Philip’s Anglican Church and ended at the Legion. After a moving service, the Legion welcomed all of us into the clubroom with food, refreshments and fellowship.
This holiday season I wish you all many beautiful days, moments and cherished memories. Please remember to drive safe.
I would also like to welcome all to the Radisson Constituency Christmas Open House on Thurs., Dec. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m., which will be held at our new secondary office location at 690B Elizabeth Rd. Come and enjoy refreshments and light snacks.
We are also collecting non-perishable food items for the Christmas Cheer Board.
