I’m excited about the future of our province and our neighbourhood.
We live in a dynamic and growing community, and despite the ups and downs of the global economy, our government continues to support projects that families in our neighbourhood tell me are most important to them.
From the flyover at the Chief Peguis Trail extension to the new gym at École George V School, from the Hip and Knee Institute at Concordia Hospital to the newly-announced housing at Concordia Village Phase IV, our community is on the move. I am proud to lend my support to all the people who continue to give their time and effort to making these projects a reality.
One project that I’m particularly excited about is the redevelopment of the East Elmwood Community Club.
The opportunity to build this new club grew out of the devastating fire which destroyed the old club and left a significant hole in our community.
The club was a vibrant place where families would gather and children could get the support and recreational opportunities they need to live healthy, productive lives. In January, I was pleased to announce that we have committed over $2 million in provincial support to build a brand new, state-of the-art East Elmwood Community Club.
Through public consultations, several key design elements were identified as priorities for the club, and with provincial government support, we were able to deliver on those priorities. The new club will feature a full gym, outdoor rinks, a pleasure skating area, a multipurpose room, community meeting space, community kitchen and space for daycare. The club will be relocated close to the high-density housing along Prevette Street and Panet Road in the more visible and accessible Keenleyside Park.
The club’s former location on Beach Avenue will be turned into sports fields for use by the club. This new East Elmwood Community Club will serve the families of our community for generations and will be a place that we can all be proud of.
I believe that through the partnership between residents and elected officials, we can work together to build this great community meeting place.
I’m proud to be part of a government that has prioritized building infrastructure and focusing on what matters most to those in our community and I’m personally committed to ensuring our community continues to get support for great projects like this.
