Hoop It Up tournament returning this June

  • Print

With the rise of superstar Andrew Wiggins and the Toronto Raptors re-emerging as an NBA contender, basketball is experiencing a renaissance in the Great White North.

Winnipeg is getting the opportunity to play its part in June, as the Hoop It Up three-on-three basketball tournament is returning to the city for the first time in five years as part of the event’s 25th anniversary tour.

The tournament will take place at Garden City Shopping Centre on June 28 and 29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day as part of the tour’s only Canadian stop. Cities with NBA teams like Washington, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Dallas, Denver and Phoenix are also included.

The tournament is open to players aged eight and up, and will include a wheelchair division for players aged 14 and up. Teams must register by June 24. Teams are guaranteed four games apiece. Registration is $160 for a team of four, except in the Top Gun Men’s Division, which is $220 for a team of four.
