Nominations are now being accepted for the 31st Annual Volunteer Awards Dinner sponsored by Volunteer Manitoba and Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries.
The awards will honour the contributions that individuals and groups have made to enrich the lives of Manitobans.
Nominees from across Manitoba will be selected based on a demonstration of excellence in volunteerism and community engagement. To nominate an individual or group for an award, please visit www.volunteermanitoba.ca and see the volunteer awards dinner section for eligibility requirements and to download the nomination forms. There are a variety of categories designed to recognize individuals and groups.
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 7, 2014.
Volunteer Manitoba’s communications and outreach co-ordinator Dawn Bourbonnais said Manitobans are among the country’s top volunteers in terms of hours spent volunteering. She said many people will step up on an informal basis to volunteer their time when an emergency happens, such as when Siloam Mission was affected by water damage just before Christmas.
Some generous and hardy Winnipeggers helped boost frozen vehicle engines for no cost during the recent cold snap.
"We do have a high percentage of informal volunteering," Bourbonnais said. "We’re known for that."
The 31st Annual Volunteer Awards Dinner will be held on April 9, 2014, at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg.
