The Verba Ukrainian Dance Company is commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor.
The company, which includes dancers from northeast Winnipeg, will hold a special performance on Dec. 8 at the Rachel Browne Theatre (211 Bannatyne Ave.) at 3:15 and 4:30 p.m. Admission is free, and rush seating is offered.
The project was created by choreographers Marijka Stanowych and Claire Marshall, and is "a journey through the emotional struggle of the Holodomor", according to a release.
The Holodomor was the systematic starvation of the Ukrainian population in 1932 and 1933 by Joseph Stalin’s Communist government that is estimated to have killed between seven million and 10 million people.
