Supporting Malala’s mission
On Tues., Aug. 6, I introduced a resolution in the Manitoba Legislature titled Supporting Malala’s Mission, which I am proud to say passed unanimously.
The resolution recognizes the dedication of Malala Yousafzai and those like her who advocate for the rights of women and girls across the world.
Malala is a Pakistani teenager who survived being shot in the head in October 2012 by the Taliban for advocating for universal education and girls’ rights.
As your MLA, I work with my colleagues and with the community to prioritize educational opportunities for students here in Manitoba. Partnering with school divisions, I support scholarships at several Radisson schools to encourage students to work hard and overcome obstacles to pursue their educational goals.
We also have international education partnerships between the government of Manitoba and individual schools in Egypt, Ghana, Thailand, China and South Korea teaching portions of the Manitoba curriculum.
Malala’s mission is an inspiration to people throughout the world and together, leaders in our community and international leaders can use education as a powerful weapon against social injustice.
In Malala’s words, "One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education first."
