Most people are completely unaware that the AA ringette season culminates in the Canadian national championships every year. But to the ringette community, this event is far from unnoticed!
This year the tournament took place in Fredericton, N.B., and was a full week of intense ringette action that included teams from all across Canada in the U16AA, U19AA age groups, as well as the National Ringette League. River East Ringette was proudly represented by players at every level as well as by coaches.
Our very own Ashlee Peacock was one player who represented River East at the nationals. As a member of the Prairie Fire National Ringette League team, Ashlee travelled to Fredericton to participate in the event.
Prairie Fire went undefeated through the tournament and secured a spot in the gold medal game.
They ended up coming home with a silver medal after a heart-breaking overtime loss in that game — we are all incredibly proud of all their hard-work!
Many supporters were glued to their computer screens to watch the webcasts of the games, which was a rare treat. Being able to cheer for our teams as they fought through the tournament really brought the excitement home.
It goes with out saying that the nationals are an event to remember but rooting for your own makes it all the more sweet.
Way to go Prairie Fire and thank you Ashlee!
