Archwood CC gets grant for upgrades

  • Print

Archwood Community Centre will receive funding for upgrades to its kitchen and washrooms, it was announced recently.

The centre, located at 565 Guilbault St., has secured $21,272 for the renovations from the third round of grants awarded to successful applicants of the City of Winnipeg’s Community Centre Renovation Grant Program. The program recently awarded 13 grants to community centres across the city totalling almost 400,000.

In a news release, Mayor Sam Katz said the funds will help centre organizers maximize their volunteer time, as well as improve the facilities.

"We want to give our busy volunteers the time to concentrate on providing quality programming," Katz said. "Having access to these renovation grants has made it much easier for them to tackle necessary upgrades, such as washrooms, lighting and flooring."

The grant program has two annual intake periods, with a spring deadline of May 1 and a fall deadline of Nov. 1. The funding is intended to support repairs, upgrades, retrofits, safety improvements and renovation projects.

Applicants are eligible for 100% support of project costs, up to a maximum of $50,000 per project, per calendar year, officials say.
