BTPRSM to hold festive fundraiser this weekend

  • Print

It’s nearly time to show a little puppy love for a good cause.

The Boston Terrier & Pug Rescue of Southern Manitoba (BTPRSM) will be hosting its second annual Holiday Fun Dog Day on Sun., Dec 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vada’s Club K9, located at 628 St. Anne’s Rd.

The event is one of the non-profit organization’s big fundraisers of the holiday season. It will feature a bake sale, a silent auction, de-shedding for $15, "pawdicures" for $10, as well as photos with Santa by Coralee Penner of Red Photo Co. Photo appointments can booked by calling Vada’s Club K9 at 204-221-0998.

Rena Mathieson, a key co-organizer at BTPRSM, told The Lance recently that the rescue has had many extensive knee surgeries to deal with in the past few months, including two knee surgeries.

"More recently, we took into our care a basset hound, which was picked up as a stray. We named her Hope, because she was nearing death’s door weighing in at only 15 pounds. She was emaciated and malnourished," Mathieson said.

"Our vet, Dr. Drain at Southglen Veterinary Hospital, did emergency exploratory surgery to look for a blockage in her intestines. Nothing was found in surgery, her intestines looked good, as did her kidneys and liver. We are treating her for an intestinal infection. After staying for a few days at the vet, she is now residing in a loving foster home, where she is getting the love and attention she truly deserves."

Mathieson said if individuals cannot make it out to the upcoming event, they are welcome to consider making a donation directly to BTPRSM’s vet bill in Hope name at the hospital, located at V-730 St. Anne's Rd.
