Grant programs to benefit many

  • Print

Radisson is an exciting community of engaged residents and in representing you since 2003,

I’ve had the chance to see many developments in our province, city and neighbourhood. I would like to share some of these great projects with you.
One development that is extremely important to east Winnipeg is the Plessis Road Underpass.

The province is investing up to $25 million for the project, which is set to begin shortly and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2014.

I am also proud to share with you that six organizations in our community will benefit from the recently-announced Community Places program and Sports Opportunities grants.

Many of these projects are designed to help support healthy living. Windsor Park Collegiate, Helping Hands Resource Centre for Immigrants Inc. and the River East Transcona School Division Lighthouse Program will all be receiving new sports equipment, from basketballs and volleyballs to nets and uniforms to snowshoes for winter activity in our beautiful community.

Other projects benefitting from the programs include building upgrades for the Prendergast Centre Association Inc. which houses six organizations including three child care centres.
St. Bartholomew Anglican Church will be installing an accessible elevator and washroom and the Les Franco-Lions de Lacerte Inc. playground will be improved with a wheelchair-accessible swing.

I am also pleased to inform you about the Career Internship Program (CIP) at Windsor Park Collegiate in which students complete a university/college entrance program of studies and network with professionals in a variety of fields, developing confidence in the transition from high school to post-secondary education.  I have enjoyed supporting this wonderful program and congratulate the teachers, parents and students on their great success.

And of course, this year’s Transcona Hi Neighbour Parade will be taking place June 1 at 11:00 and will traverse Regent Ave from Brewster to Wayoata. At dusk, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries will be sponsoring celebratory fireworks at Buhler Park, located at 135 Murdock Rd. I look forward to seeing you all there!

It is always a great opportunity to get to share some of the new developments in our community. If you have any questions about the projects mentioned above, please contact my office at 204-222-0074 or email me at bidhujha@yourmanitoba.ca
