If your garden looks great and tastes even better, you should enter the Manitoba Garden Makeover Competition.
The second annual Manitoba Garden Makeover Competition is taking entries until Fri., Aug. 8. Participants can enter in the rural, urban, under 18, or newbie categories for a chance to win over $1,000 in prizes including custom landscaping and gardening consultations from Sage Garden Herbs and Urban Eatin’ Gardeners Worker Co-op, gift cards from Sunshine Greenhouse and organic fertilizer from Red River Soils.
Facilitated by Food Matters Manitoba, the annual competition encourages Manitobans to turn their lawns into edible landscapes. An edible landscape is an area filled with food-producing plants designed to look aesthetically pleasing. Vegetables, herbs, fruit trees and berry bushes can replace ornamental plants and flowers. Edible landscapes can be created in backyard gardens, on balconies, porches or even in front lawns.
The contest is open to all Manitobans and gardens of all sizes. Contestants must send in six photographs of their garden and complete an online entry form at www.manitobagarden.com
