Members of the Bonivital Flames boys’ soccer teams may be the pride of the province, but they could still use a little help from their friends.

At the Manitoba Provincial Soccer Championships last month, the club completed a rare hat trick by winning all three titles at the U14, U16 and U18 level.

In the U14 final, Bonivital beat Portage Trail 2-1; the U16 team overcame Winnipeg South End United 1-0 and the U18 side defeated Portage Trail in a dramatic penalty shootout after regular play yielded a 1-1 draw and overtime couldn’t separate the deadlock.

The teams are now preparing to travel to their respective nationals next month, which will be held in Lethbridge, Alta. (U14), Kamloops, B.C. (U16) and Mount Pearl, N.L. (U18).

To help fund their trip west, the U14 team will host a Sip, Slurp and Crunch pasta dinner event at In Ferno’s Bistro (312 Des Meurons St.) on Sun., Sept. 29. Tickets are $20 each and the price includes an entree of spaghetti, garlic toast and wine. Organizers say individuals who are unable to attend can still support the team by purchasing a $10 ticket, which will include an entry into a raffle draw. There will also be a 50/50 draw and a silent auction at the event.

There will two sittings at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. and tickets are available from Wendy Lourenco at akd3@mts.net. Please identify your sitting of choice.

The U16 team will be travelling even further west and is set to hold a giant yard sale fundraiser to help shoot them to success. Organizers were at the soccer field at St. Vital Memorial Park on Sept. 22 to accept donations of items, and the sale will be held at the same location on Sun., Sept 29 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The U18 team will be heading east in its search for glory and organizers will be holding a Bud, Spud and Steak fundraising event on Fri., Oct. 4. The evening will include a silent auction with numerous prizes, a 50/50 draw and a fine wine draw.
