Innovating in Saint Boniface

  • Print

Did you know Saint Boniface is home to some truly innovative companies?

In fact, we can take pride in some very impressive software and equipment designed and built right here in Manitoba.

Last week, I had the privilege of celebrating success and support with some of our community’s best and brightest.

On behalf of Greg Rickford, Minister of State (Science and Technology), I was pleased to announce that neovation corporation, Vari Tech Systems Inc., and BOMImed Inc. all received a federal investment through the National Research Council Canada’s (NRC) Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP).

Neovation is the proud producer of SmarterU, an online training platform that businesses can use to efficiently train their staff wherever they’re located. Your bank or hardware store, for example, may be able to provide you with better service because of the training their employees received through SmarterU.

Vari Tech Systems has been developing software solutions for the child care industry for 15 years. They are the makers of childcareproTM, Canada’s first web-based solution for child care centres. This innovative software helps child care centres manage wait lists, maintain a safe and efficient environment, and communicate with parents.

Mariette DeGagné, CEO of Vari Tech, shared how IRAP funding provides critical support for its research and development, and allows the company to expend its resources and ensure it can meet industry demands for years to come.

BOMImed is also an industry leader. Since 1985, it has specialized in the manufacturing and distribution of anesthesia, critical care and warming therapy products. At Friday’s announcement, Darcy Collignon, Director of Product Development for BOMImed, shared how IRAP funding will help the company fulfil its three core values: innovation, integrity and caring.
Saint Boniface can truly be proud of homegrown companies like these, which will benefit from the research and development advice and funding received through the NRC IRAP program.
We should celebrate entrepreneurs like Dan Belhassen, President and founder of neovation corporation, who have a significant impact on our economy.

That is why I was so excited to announce these federal investments. These innovative businesses are critical to the Canadian economy and our government will continue to put in place the tools that Canadians need to grow, create jobs and secure their long-term prosperity.
