It’s going to be all go this fall at NGCC
Organizers at Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre are gearing up for a busy few months of sports and leisure activities in the community.
Fall registration for ringette, basketball and junior and youth indoor soccer will be held at the centre’s Norberry site (26 Molgat Ave.) on Wed., Sept. 4 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Sat., Sept. 7 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., while hockey registrations can be done online at stvitalhockey.ca.
Registrations after these dates will be subject to a $50 late fee.
Howard Kazuska, a member of NGCC’s communications team, said hockey is the centre’s "big fall program" for male and female youth aged four to 21. The program included a house league for kids aged between four and eight years and a direct entry league for those aged nine and up.
Girls born in 2007 (Grade 1) can play in the all-girls Winnipeg U8 hockey league with full ice games throughout the season. U8 novice female hockey is "tied into two levels that allows new and experienced (players) to develop at a level that’s right for them. Girls will enjoy a fun game and experience lasting friendships. There will a free introduction for female hockey at the MTS IcePlex on Aug. 27 and 28," Kazuska added.
The ringette season runs from October to March.
Basketball at NGCC is administered by the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association. The fall league is set to run from mid-October to mid-March and is open to male and female youth aged five to 18. The league holds its games on weekends, as well as one practice on a weeknight.
Kazuska said the centre has its own junior soccer program for players aged seven and eight, which is held in NGCC’s gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a 10-week period. Youth indoor soccer for ages nine to 18 runs from October to March and is held at various indoor pitches across the city.
