A local group for mothers and their children is hoping for some neighbourly support at an upcoming sale.

The St. Vital Y Neighbours Fall Used Children’s Clothing & Toy Sale will be held on Sat., Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Jonathan Toews Community Centre, located at 1188 Dakota St. The event will feature 37 vendor tables, raffle prizes and there will be baked goods for sale. Admission is $1.

The annual sale, along with another one held in the spring, is the primary fundraisers for the volunteer-led, non-profit St. Vital Y Neighbours group, which meets during the school year at Morrow Gospel Church, located at 755 St. Anne’s Rd. in Royalwood, on Tuesday mornings.

The group, one of a number throughout the city supported by the social and development services department of the YMCA/YWCA of Winnipeg, provides support, including child care, for mothers with young children.

Group member and mother-of-three Sandra Dee-Beer, who lives in Sage Creek, said group membership goes in cycles and is currently on the upswing. In May, the group had 13 members.

"Our chapter has grown since the spring and now has more than 20 moms coming
together weekly to learn together and support each other," said Beer, who was a co-leader of the group during the last school year. "We started meeting again earlier this month and it’s been exciting meeting all the new members and their children."

"Customers at the sale looking for toys and clothing for children will see a variety of items offered by more than 35 vendors," she added, noting the group offers numerous benefits to moms, including regular guest speakers and the chance to enjoy coffee, snacks and conversation in a roundtable environment, where participants can take turns in talking about the highlights of their week.
