An illuminating funding boost will help local skiers pursue their passion at night.
Windsor Park Nordic Centre will receive $75,000 in federal funding to install trail lighting which will enhance night skiing. The centre — located at 10 Des Meurons St. and operated by the Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba — provides nine kilometres of groomed trails for both classic and state skiing.
The funding, which was announced recently by MP Shelly Glover (St. Boniface) comes from the government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF), which forms part of the federal government’s Economic Action Plan.
"By improving facilities such as this, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians," Glover said in a news release.
Karin McSherry, CCSAM’s executive director, added the funding will allow the association to "increase the length of illuminated ski trails" at the centre and "increase our capacity to provide a superior ski recreational experience to our community."
