Recent Holliday roast had diamond lining

It’s not every day that community members get to roast a diamond.

But that’s what happened on June 26 at Canad Inns Fort Garry, when Bob Holliday was roasted to mark his 70th birthday to help raise funds for the St. Vital Museum and Historical Society, which he spearheads.

Holliday is a well-known wrestling promoter and long-time crime reporter and has a lifelong history of volunteering with numerous organizations, community clubs and sports teams, including the St. Vital Bulldogs, St. Vital Mustangs, Fort Garry Lions and St. Boniface Mohawks.

And to mark his achievements and milestone birthday, Holliday was also presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by St. Boniface MP Shelly Glover.

"There are very few people like Bob who are willing to give so much of themselves for their community," said Glover in a news release. "It is my distinct honour to present this prestigious award to such a deserving recipient."

To mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the throne as Queen of Canada, the medal was created to mark this historic event and honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
