The president of a local resident’s group wants anglophone and francophone members of the community to come together and play a part at its upcoming annual general meeting.
The Old St. Boniface Residents’ Association (OSBRA) will hold its AGM on Wed., March 20 at 7 p.m. at Notre Dame Community Centre (271 avenue de la Cathédrale) in St. Boniface.
Walter Kleinschmit — a long-time area resident and president of the association — said items for consideration on the agenda include the adoption of the Old St. Boniface Vision Report and the resurrection of the St. Boniface Development Corporation — "originally organized by (the association) in the mid-80s" — to help develop infill housing and single/duplex family units at affordable prices.
The agenda also includes the aim to appoint a committee to "initiate a study of current civic leisure resources, define community needs for the current and next generation and propose a master plan for the next 20 years for our area," he added.
Kleinschmit — who is also the president of a consulting practice specializing in retail real estate in the Middle East — hopes community members will support the association at the meeting, and noted that nominations from the floor for executive or support committee members will be accepted on the night.
"The executive is looking for residents who are ready and able to assist with the organization’s mandate to promote the well-being of the residents of Old St. Boniface," he said.
The mandate of OSBRA is to promote the existing character of the community, the historical and cultural significance of the area and desirable change and development in the St. Boniface core area.
