According to a news release, the project is being funded through PPP Canada, the Province of Manitoba, and the City of Winnipeg. Stage 2, which is being built as a public-private partnership, extends Stage 1 of the Southwest Transitway to the University of Manitoba.
The first piece of Stage 2 of the transitway that connects to Pembina Highway has been named Bohémier Trail in honour of the Bohémier family, which moved from to Manitoba from Quebec in 1884, and the road has been named in recognition of the family’s history and the cultural significance of the Franco-Manitoban and Métis culture in the area, officials say. The Bohémier family home has been restored to its former glory, and is now located in the St. Boniface Provincial Heritage Park.
