A community drop-in and programming centre has received a federal funding boost for new equipment and structural repairs.

MP Shelly Glover (St. Boniface) recently announced that St. Vital based-Teen Stop Jeunesse — which provides programs, training and community-based services for both youth and adults — will receive more than $37,000 to support the installation of three HVAC furnace units and the replacement of the roof.

The funding comes under the federal government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"Since 1980, Teen Stop Jeunesse has been helping young people in our community find a safe place to hang out and participate in programs," Glover said in a news release.

Patrick LeBlanc, executive director of Teen Stop Jeunesse, said the upgrades to the HVAC units and roof "in our shared facility are essential to Centre 24/7" to move forward.

"These upgrades will allow us to continue to address the needs of our community through the safe and healthy expansion of Morrow Avenue Child Care Program for families, he said, noting other facility partners include the St Vital Adult Education and Edge Skills Centre.
