USB’s president to step down next year
Search will soon begin to replace Raymonde Gagné
Officials at Université de Saint-Boniface will soon begin the search for a new president.
It was recently announced that Raymonde Gagné will step down as the university’s 45th president on June 30, 2014 after 11 years in the role.
Léo Robert, chair of the board of governors, said in a news release that the university "has seen remarkable development and growth over Ms. Gagné’s two terms of office."
"Under her leadership, governance and accountability were enhanced, research became a driving force at the university and the student population increased constantly, climbing from 1,175 students in 2003/04 to 1,453 by March 2013."
"As well, USB saw its first major physical expansion since the 1970s, with the construction of Pavillon Marcel-A.-Desautels, the health sciences and social services building. This project was carried out under a tight schedule and during a period of world recession," Robert added.
Named president in August 2003, Gagné has worked at the university since 1984 in various roles, including director of the continuing education division, director for new programs and professor of business administration.
She is credited with the development of several new programs, particularly in the health sciences, and the acquisition of USB’s student residences, officials say.
"Looking back, we have achieved far more than the most ambitious goals we could have set ourselves back in August 2003," Gagné said in the release, noting she has especially enjoyed building relationships with the university’s faculty and staff and numerous donors and partners."
"These many encounters will leave me with a strong attachment to Manitoba’s francophone community and, indeed, to the community as a whole."
Officials say the "rigorous selection process" will begin in the next few months to find a new president to guide the university as it approaches its 200th anniversary in 2018.
