Weight loss show coming to Winnipeg
An award-winning weight loss show is making a stop in Winnipeg this week.
X-Weighted, which airs on the Slice television network, will host X-Weighted Connect on Sat., April 14 at Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elmwood school, located at 173 Talbot Ave.
The session will give those in attendance an opportunity to develop their own outline for a healthier lifestyle through information sessions with weight loss experts and interactive workshops.
Margaret Funk, who lives in North Kildonan, took part in Season 3 of X-Weighted with her daughter Kayla Park in 2007, and will be attending the upcoming event.
Funk said taking part in the series for six months was a life-changing experience for both her and Park.
"I’ve struggled with weight for years. I had six children and we struggle with weight in our family so we decided to do it," said Funk, 48.
"We were both really happy with our loss. We lost 129 pounds in total."
After taking part in the show, Funk was inspired to start exercising twice a day and now attends kick boxing classes twice a week.
Paul Plakas, a health and fitness trainer with X-Weighted, said the show helps identify the obstacles people face that prevent them from making a healthy change in their lives.
"We find out if they can make weight loss changes, and if they did great. If they didn’t, why didn’t you?" Plakas said during a phone interview from Alberta last week.
"I’m going to be doing a lecture on maximizing your exercise time. I’m going to give people my top 10 list on do’s and don’ts about exercising."
Plakas said the one-day event is designed to provide information to those hoping to make a lifestyle change.
"People can sit back and take it all in. It’s going to be interactive and we’ll have some games going on," he said.
Funk said she hopes the upcoming session will provide her with new ways to maintain her healthy lifestyle.
"We’re never too old to learn, there’s always new stuff," she said.
"By the time I’m 50 I hope to be in the best shape of my life."
Tickets for the event are $99.95 plus additional fees and tax. For a ticket, workbook, and to participate in a boot camp led by Plakas the cost is $139.90 plus ticket fees and taxes.
