The Canadian Diabetes Association thanks all volunteer canvassers and residents in Royalwood for their wonderful support this October.

Every year, dedicated volunteers go door-to-door to raise awareness about diabetes and to fundraise in their neighborhoods. Many of them have been personally effected by diabetes in some way.

"Diabetes is an epidemic in Canada and in Manitoba. Today, more than 103,000 Manitobans are living with diabetes," says Gwen Smith, co-ordinator of community engagement with the Canadian Diabetes Association.  

"Our fall door-to-door campaign allows us to raise awareness and ask people to join in the fight against diabetes.

"We have 2,400 volunteers in Manitoba canvassing on our behalf including 16 volunteers from the Royalwood area. We would not be able to accomplish our mission without their generous support and are grateful for their time and commitment", Smith adds.

Royalwood residents are invited to participate in a special campaign to mark Diabetes Awareness Month in November. The What a Cure Means to Me Campaign gives a voice to people living with diabetes by sharing their diabetes stories at whatacuremeans2me.com <http://whatacuremeans2me.com> .

Royalwood residents may have noticed that construction has officially begun on the Homes by StreetSide.

The StreetSide Development Corp., a Qualico Company, is building 22 single-family homes on lots located on Tascona Road and John Bruce Road.  Two different bungalow options and a pair of two-storey options are available ranging in size from 1,440 to 2,100 square feet with varying elevations.

Prices are anticipated to be in the $400,000 to $500,000 range, and include the base price of the home and lot, GST, a piled foundation, an upgraded exterior, and a nine-foot ceiling on the main level.  

"These lots will be quite large in size," says Myles Viklund of Rancho Realty Services (Manitoba) Ltd., "(They’re) perfect for entertaining outdoors, and building outdoor activity space for young families".
