Jonathon Toews CC set offer yoga classes in April

You can now do the downward-facing dog at your local community centre.

For the first time yoga will be offered at Jonathon Toews C.C., beginning in the first week of April.

The community centre said it looks forward to providing a well-rounded program to increase the health of people’s minds and bodies.

Classes will run from April 9 to May 28 and are open to anyone over the age of 18. Beginner/intermediate classes will cost $80 for 8 weeks and will run Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays; 55-plus classes will run Tuesdays from 10 -11a.m.

If you feel uncomfortable in front of others or are nervous about joining a yoga class right away, the club is also offering beginner and private sessions. These will provide beginners and those uncomfortable with yoga with the knowledge to participate in regular group classes. These hour-long sessions include an outline of basic yoga practice and poses, breathing exercises, and the principles of alignment. The price is $30 per hour and group rates are also available. These sessions can be taught either at the Jonathon Toews Community Centre or in the privacy of your own home.

It is a busy month at Dakota Collegiate. Students have just completed exams and are in full swing with competitions and fundraising at the St. Vital high school. Students who play in the band will participate in the Band/Wind Ensemble Optimist Festival from Feb. 19-22 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Admission is free for students and $2 for adults.

Operation Donation is also happening at Dakota Collegiate the week after the Optimist Festival. from Feb. 25 to March 1. The school is collecting non-perishable food items for Winnipeg Harvest, including baby food, tuna, soup, canned vegetables, fruit and pasta.

The week-long food drive helps replenish much-needed supplies for the food bank. Some 75 schools throughout Manitoba took part in Operation Donation last year ,collecting 19,610 kg in food donations.
