Hey there, time traveller!

Shortly after I was elected MLA for Charleswood, I did an assessment of the needs of our community.
I was determined to develop an appropriate and effective way for our community leaders to network, stay in touch, exchange views pertinent to the community, and allow for active participation in a relaxed and informative way.
With this in mind, I established a Community Leaders Networking Luncheon series. Our first luncheon was 14 years ago and has evolved into a key event for our community leaders.
I host these luncheons twice a year with the next one scheduled for Fri., June 7 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Park West Inn.
Our community leaders represent education, business, service groups, recreational activities, health, community services, churches, etc. We also allow time for short presentations by community leaders themselves.
We usually include a guest speaker covering topics of interest to all. Past speakers include Hannah Taylor of the Ladybug Foundation, Mayor Sam Katz, Winnipeg police chiefs, the Charleswood Historical Society and others.
There is always a "buzz" in the air both before and after the presentations as people network and get to know each other. Many partnerships have been formed at these luncheons that have gone on to improve the lives of many in our community.
I also greatly appreciate the presence of students at these luncheons, and Oak Park High School has been an active participant by sending students who have demonstrated leadership in community service or student government.
It’s a great opportunity for them to be exposed to this type of community event. We also listen with great attention to ideas that they contribute.
Our next agenda includes two presentations, one on the recent developments of the Assiniboine Zoo and Park, and the second on this year’s Celebration of Charleswood’s 100th Anniversary presented by students of Pacific Junction School.
If you are a Charleswood volunteer, community leader or business leader interested in attending, please contact my office at 204-885-0594 or email me at email@example.com

In addition to the luncheons, we have established an email database of community and business leaders that exceeds 200 people.
When a member wants to share an announcement or a call for help, we are able to facilitate their requests.
I look forward to seeing our long-term members and also the opportunity to meet any new community leaders who are attending the luncheon for the first time.
