There is a pall hanging over Westwood as I write this. The events of July 24 on Coleridge Park are tragic. I would like to extend our neighbourhood’s condolences to the family and to respect their request for privacy at this time.
July is been a busy month for me personally. As many of you know, I have introduced a new battery recycling program into St. Charles Ward.
For the past month I have been personally hand delivering our custom-designed battery recycling boxes to all of the homes south of Portage Avenue. During my walks, I have enjoyed a great many conversations with residents regarding local and city-wide issues.
My office has been receiving a steady flow of calls from residents requesting battery box pickups. So far, we have collected over 200 pounds of batteries would have otherwise been dumped into a landfill where, over time, they would have polluted our environment.
The success of the collection boxes so far has encouraged me to expand the battery recycling program to those residences north of Portage Avenue. A new batch of battery recycling boxes has been ordered and I intend to spend much of the month of August going street to street delivering these boxes while talking with you about any concerns you have related to the neighbourhood and the city.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact my office by phone at 204-986-5920 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
