Daily Grind Coffee moving up and out
New location slated to open late February to early March
After almost nine years, a St. James café is changing things up by moving locations.
Daily Grind Coffee, currently located at 3393 Portage Ave., is moving a couple of blocks away to 3043 Portage Ave. The opening date is expected to be in between late February to early March.
Owner Massimo Iafolla, 42, said the move is an opportunity for growth for the business as well as a chance to provide a new, exciting environment for current and future customers.
"We’re only moving a few blocks down the street," Iafolla said with a laugh, "but any change is change."
After graduating with a commerce degree, Iafolla was looking to start a business.
"I kind of spent a couple of years researching the café environment in Winnipeg," Iafolla said. "I thought it was a good business idea at the time because there wasn’t that many specialty coffee shops in the city. The market has definitely grown over the years."
Iafolla said other than the change in venue, not much else is going to change at Daily Grind Coffee. The main idea was to grow the menu and gain more customers.
"We don’t want to go too crazy," Iafolla said.
Daily Grind Coffee offers a variety of hot and cold specialty drinks, in-house baked desserts, soups, sandwiches, and salads.
"One of the reasons for our relocation is we want to add to our menu and start doing some different lunch specials and dinner specials and so on," Iafolla said.
Iafolla said feedback from his regular customers has been mostly positive. He takes pride in the way he and his staff have taken the time to get to know their customers for the past nine years.
"We’ve developed great community loyalty over the years as a locally-owned, non-chain restaurant," Iafolla said.
There is nothing concrete planned for the upcoming opening date, but Iafolla anticipates doing something to commemorate the opening of the new location and Daily Grind Coffee’s ninth anniversary.
"Our actual nine-year anniversary is April 4," Iafolla explained.
