Faith Bible Church right at home in Minto
Faith Bible Church is now the new occupant of 600 Minto St. This large church has stood since the year 1939 and until recently was home to the Our Saviour’s Norwegian Lutheran Church.
The building looks a bit rough around the edges appearance-wise but it is structurally sound and Pastor Jim Barber believes it is worth the time, talent, and money to spruce it up. Faith Bible Church took possession of the building on Feb. 14 and is currently in the midst of a month-and-a-half long initial renovation.
Volunteers and contractors have come together with immense energy to reach the goal of having the church ready to welcome the congregation and guests to its first Sunday service on April 6, immediately before Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week.
Initial renovations include insulation, new flooring, painting, new seating, upgraded exit doors and kitchen and bathroom renovations. Once the weather warms up, volunteers will turn their attention to landscaping improvements, which will include concrete repairs and painting.
Faith Bible Church, a non-denominational Christian church, was founded in 2009 by Pastor Barber and, until now, had been renting meeting space in various parts of Winnipeg. The congregation is diverse in background and has members from all over Winnipeg and surrounding communities.
Pastor Barber chose the Minto area because of the large community surrounding the church. He wants to be a blessing to the community and invites and welcomes guests, visitors, and new members. He noted that the church is just 100 yards north of Portage Avenue and its active and busy transit routes, making it easier for people to attend services and events.
Faith Bible Church also has a small youth group that holds Bible study, does charity work, and takes part in fun recreational activities such as bowling and skating.
As the congregation settles into its new home over the next few months more events will be planned and the broader community will be welcomed.
