Seniors wanting to better protect themselves against identify theft can attend a free seminar at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 11.
Hosted by Kirkfield Park MLA Sharon Blady, the event will feature presentations by the Winnipeg Police Service and the Manitoba ombudsman.
"My father did have his identity stolen a few years back, and it was through credit card," Blady said, adding near-field communication technology today allows thieves to tap phone and credit card information just by being in a victim’s vicinity.
Blady said the ombudsman will be handing out free sleeves for credit cards that protects against such unwanted intrusions.
