Chris Bullock is a man of many talents — he plays guitar, sings, and paints, although not at the same time.

He’s no slacker, either. The Charleswood talent has been travelling across Western Canada lately, taking two trips which both involve bringing his work to new audiences.

Bullock recently travelled to Vancouver for the Sept. 28 movie screening of H & G, a modern-day Hansel and Gretel story. One of his songs made it onto the film’s soundtrack.

"I went to the (Vancouver International Film Festival) to watch the screening and got to hear my song on a big screen in a feature, so that was cool," Bullock said about the chosen song, All The While.

"They did a call for local musicians in Winnipeg, and they got thousands of submissions," the pop/rock artist said.

He is one of the select few Winnipeg musicians to be featured in the movie. Bullock is the frontman of New Stellar Star, though it’s not exactly a band — rather than keeping a permanent group together, Bullock hires people to play for him when it comes time to record new music.

H & G was a project by Winnipeg-based production company Red Czarina. The film, directed by Danishka Esterhazy, centres around two children who have been abandoned on the side of a highway, later venturing into the woods, where they meet several strange characters.

Bullock said All The While was chosen for the soundtrack because "the lyrics and the feel of the song was fitting for what was going on with the children."

Bullock explained the song is about trying to break free from a toxic relationship.

He also recently travelled to Canmore, Alta. to discuss  the possibility of having his abstract paintings put on display in the town’s Elevation Contemporary Art Gallery.

"I had a friend from Los Angeles who’s also an artist and a painter who suggested that I start promoting (my art)," Bullock explained. "I started to do that, and restaurants, salons, businesses, and home builders started to take interest."

Right now, Bullock is expanding his repertoire by adding acting to his list of skills. He is currently studying with L.A. acting coach Benson Simmonds.
