Man nabbed after chase in stolen vehicle

A 27-year-old man is in custody after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a foot chase in St. James last week.

On Mon., Feb. 25, officers were called to the 1800 block of Ness Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on reports of a stolen vehicle, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a release.

Responding officers spotted the vehicle around Sturgeon Road and Portage Avenue where they continued to follow the vehicle to the 700 block of David Street, near Unicity Mall.

There, the man stopped and fled the vehicle. The man was tracked by the police helicopter and later arrested without incident, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, is being detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
