Legion Memorial Park is $271,000 richer.

The space, located at Silver Avenue and Sackville Street, is getting funds from Phase Three of the Building Communities Initiative II for several new features and expansions such as:

• A new play structure/climber with wood fibre safety surfacing and concrete curbing;
• A zip line play feature;
• A larger saucer swing;
• A new sand play area with log steppers;
• Benches, picnic tables, and waste receptacles;
• New perimeter fencing;
• Park entry feature;
• Two small boardwalk structures to cross ditches.

Coun. Scott Fielding (St. James-Brooklands-Weston) said nothing is being torn down to make way for the additions.

"It’s building on the existing site there, so we’re not tearing anything down. We’re adding to what’s there," Fielding said.

Work is expected commence this summer and should be completed by fall.
