Plants, pies, and a garage sale to boot
Deer Lodge Community Centre to be hub of sales action
Gardening season is just getting underway, so the time for flowers is now. And, of course, the time for pies is anytime.
The St. James Horticultural Society, formerly The Garden Club, is holding its Plant and Bake Sale at the Deer Lodge Community Centre, 323 Bruce Ave., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., May 25.
"We’re going to be selling a variety of annuals and perennials, if we get some sunshine and the perennials pull through for me, along with a variety of vegetable plants, which will be mainly tomatoes," said society board member Art Vrose.
"They’re already, a lot of them, a foot high."
Homemade baking by society members, which number about 140, will include "everything from butter tarts to pies," Vrose said.
Money raised will support the society, which is celebrating its centennial next year.
Also at the centre on Saturday is the Deer Lodge Community Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Vrose said.
Renting a table to sell wares costs $20. Call the centre at 204-888-2049 to register for the sale, and leave a name and number if the answering machine picks up.
