Making Waves Winnipeg and the Inner City Youth Football Program will receive a donation from Mayor Sam Katz’s annual State of the City Address at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on March 6.
Each year, some of the net proceeds from the State of the City luncheon are donated to non-profit groups chosen by Katz.
"All children should have access to healthy recreation opportunities," Katz said in a release.
Charleswood resident Cameron Krisko founded Making Waves Winnipeg in 2011. The organization provides one-on-one swimming instruction to children with special needs.
Former Winnipeg Blue Bomber Dave Donaldson founded the Inner City Youth Football Program in 2010. The program offers children from low-income households a chance to play football.
Each organization will also receive $5,000 from the CEO of Peerless Garments, Albert El Tassi.
