Construction has begun on the St. James Collegiate running track.
The St. James-Assiniboia School Division is funding the $500,000 track for the school to use, but it is also open to the public. The track, which encroaches on the property of neighbouring Bourkevale Community Centre, is scheduled to be ready for the fall.
A soccer field, which the St. James-Assiniboia School Division is also funding, is being built on the community centre’s land.
"We look forward to the completion of the track and the soccer field," Gary Kristiansen, president of the community centre, said. "It’ll be a bonus for the community."
