Visit splash pad to stay cool during heat wave
What a great start to the summer.
Near record temperatures with beautiful sunshine reminds us of how wonderful a prairie summer can be. After the long and harsh winter, it almost seems as if Mother Nature is finally rewarding us for our patience.
It is the appearance of summer which has made me so excited about the opening of the new splash pad at Centennial Pool. This new facility allows children to splash the hot summer temperatures away while exploring all the activities that different features allow.
With the weather outlook pointing to a long-term heat wave, the hours of operation of the Centennial Pool splash pad have been extended into the later evening to allow as many people as possible to cool off and have fun.
I am also very pleased with the uptake of my new battery box program by area residents. Some volunteers and I started delivering the boxes in late June and will continue to do so through July.
I have already had calls from residents who have already filled their boxes and are requesting both a pickup and a new box. This is precisely what I was hoping for. Batteries are extremely difficult to dispose of so I am pleased to have found a solution to keeping as many batteries as we can out of the landfill. I hope that residents will use this service that I am offering and that other areas of the city consider adopting this innovative solution to battery disposal.
I was delighted to see so many of you at last week’s community barbecue. It was a great opportunity to see so many neighbours and friends and also to meet new ones. These events are great chances to connect with the community in a more laid-back way and talk about the community, what we have accomplished and what still needs to be done to ensure that we are the best area in the city to live, work and play in.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday whether it is in the city, at your cottage, or on your vacation travels. Our office will be open through the summer months to respond to any concerns or issues you may have. I would also welcome you to report issues by calling 311 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
