The annual Massive West End Spring Cleanup is on Saturday, April 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. and organizers are putting the call out for people to join them and help beautify the neighbourhood.
"We’ve been doing this for over 10 years, which is great, and it’s great for community people to come out and clean up the area, and it gets people out," said Tanya Suderman, environmental and open spaces co-ordinator at Spence Neighbourhood Association (SNA).
SNA is teamed up with the Daniel McIntyre/St. Matthews Community Association and the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre for the cleanup, which drew 200 people last year, Suderman said.
The cleanup includes the area bordered by Notre Dame Avenue, Portage Avenue, Balmoral Street, and Ingersoll Street.
Gloves, pickers, garbage bags, and "shovels and brooms for things like glass," are provided, Suderman said.
Participants can show up on the day at 1 p.m. at one of three places: the Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre, 430 Langside Street near Ellice Avenue; the Daniel McIntyre/St. Matthews Community Association, 823 Ellice Avenue; or the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, 443 Spence Street.
Suderman said all are welcome.
"Even if you go to concerts or you worship in the area, you’re welcome to come and join to make it a safe and clean place to be, and beautiful."
