Happy summer everyone! With the end of school around the corner and all of the beautiful weather we have been having, I’m sure you have found yourself thinking about planning some fun things for you and your family to do.
There is lots happening in our city this summer, and there’s plenty to do right here at home in Daniel McIntyre.
This year the City of Winnipeg is very proud to be hosting the Canada Summer Games from July 28 to Aug. 13. The Canada Games features competition in 16 sports, and is the largest multi-sport event for young athletes in the country. The new beach volleyball courts inside the Susan Auch Speed Skating Oval behind the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex on Sargent will be the site of the beach volleyball competition. You can watch the action there starting on July 30. Individual event passes are available for $10 or $5 for children. You can read more about the Canada Summer Games and see the online event schedule here: canadagames.ca/2017/
The City of Winnipeg Leisure Guide offers an exciting lineup of summer camps, featuring a number of fun options to keep the kids busy and active. There are camps running every week this summer at many locations throughout the city. Registration for camps and other summer activities is ongoing. To register or read more about these exciting programs, check out: ca.apm.activecommunities.com/leisureonline/Home
There are also a number of free activities being offered including summer reading clubs, sport camps, and a youth fishing program. Drop-in programming for children and youth is also available at a number of sites throughout Daniel McIntyre. For more information on any of these activities, call 311 or check out the Priceless Fun Spring/Summer 2017 Leisure Guide available here: winnipeg.ca/cms/recreation/leisure/leisureguide.stm
Recreation subsidies are also available for low-income families.
For more information on the Fee Subsidy Program, please call 311 or email cmsfeesub@winnipeg.ca
Don’t forget that you can also find ways to cool off for free by checking out one of our community’s spray pads or wading pools. Spray pads are now open, and wading pools will begin opening starting on July 1. You might also choose to cool off and relax with a good book at the West End Library.
However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you find time to enjoy the beautiful weather and explore what our city has to offer with friends and family.
