Woodhaven is in one of the most beautiful parts of St. James, bounded by Sturgeon Creek, Assiniboine River, and the St. Charles Golf Club.
If you don’t have time to get outside the city, but want a "country" like feel, this is a great place to spend an afternoon.
To get in the spirit of spring, my office organized a community spring cleanup at Sturgeon Creek (Woodhaven Community Centre) on June 10 to pick up trash that collected around the creek and green space during the winter months. The cleanup was a great success.
A big thank you to community club board members Mike and Bonnie Weber, and many other volunteers who came to help make the Woodhaven green space a clean space, even though it rained. Your dedication to keeping this green space beautiful, rain or shine is admirable. Everyone enjoyed themselves after the cleanup with a community barbecue to celebrate spring.
To keep residents informed of local and province wide developments, I hosted my fifth town hall since being elected. My latest town hall meeting was with the residents at 529 Country Club Blvd. I always enjoy hosting town hall meetings because it allows me to connect with area residents and hear about first-hand issues that are important to them. I committed to regular communications with residents and will be sending out another Kirkfield Park constituency report this fall. This report will inform you about local developments in the constituency.
A regular topic at my town hall meetings is the need for affordable housing options for residents in the St. James area. I was honoured to participate with representatives of Habitat for Humanity on the future development of 16 affordable houses in St. James. These new affordable houses will be built with former President Jimmy Carter, who was in Winnipeg to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. Habitat for Humanity is a program that builds affordable housing for purchase for low-income working families and requires 500 hours of sweat equity on the building of their respective homes. I am looking forward to seeing these houses being built and the new residents occupying them later this summer.
Have a wonderful summer and feel free to drop by my office if you ever need help with any local issues.
