Bison golf dominate south of the border
The University of Manitoba Bison men’s golf team has just started its fall season, and it’s already breaking records.
The team had much to celebrate recently after finishing first at the 2013 Concordia Invite. Josh Wytinck, in his fourth year of eligibility, and Scott Mazur, in his third year of eligibility, dominated the two-day tournament held at Meadows Golf Course in Moorhead, Minn. from Aug 30 to 31.
Wytinck won the individual title with a score of 134 (65-69), just two strokes over teammate Mazur.
In the first round Mazur fired a 62 and Wytinck scored a 65, both scores breaking a Bison record for the lowest score by a male individual in a single round. The previous record was held by Charlie Boyechko, who scored a 67 at the 2012 Concordia Invite.
"It was a great start for the team. We are very pleased with so many outstanding scores. Both (Wytinck) and (Mazur) play very well and we set three team records in the process," said Garth Goodbrandson, Bison golf head coach, in a release. "This is a great result for all of the Bisons golfers against a competitive field and should be an exciting fall season."
The team will be back on the links Sept. 7 to 8 at the Augsburg College Fall Invitational at Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake, Minn.
